The Eden Keepers

Who loves a garden still his Eden keeps.”

— Amos Bronson Alcott

April’s work party was held on March 31st, to avoid the congestion and conflict of the Cooper River Bridge Run, in addition to the Flowertown Festival.  The day was bright and breezy—perfect for gardening.  Additionally, there were no sand gnats.  I don’t know if they are just late this year or if the city is doing a massive amount of spraying, but I will keep suggesting bug spray on the theory that it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Eden Keepers for the day were Bob and Pat Jontos, Stan Boyer, Sarah Cothran, John Klintworth, Tom Hartry, Chris and Cassie Williamson, Jim Burke, Tamera Eberlein, Sarah Mason, Martha Smith, Debra Casavant, and Karen Del Porto.

Once again, many thanks to Stan for being my eyes and ears that day.

Workers mainly worked along the north-south paths in the center of the garden, pulling a plethora of weeds and vines.  In addition, they greeted our many visitors and invited them to visit our gorgeous sanctuary.

The next work party will be on May 5, from 9 to noon, followed by our covered dish lunch.  There will not be a meeting of the Churchyard Committee this month.

As always, everyone is welcome.  Bring gardening tools if you have them, gloves, water to drink while working, bug spray, and a dish to share for lunch.  Hope to see everyone in May.

Please contact Bob Jontos at 843-376-4576 or rjontos1@gmail.com for more information.
