Our Purpose:  

  • Create an environment where children will feel loved and safe.
  • Encourage and support our children’s spiritual and ethical growth.
  • Provide an open and compassionate community that promotes acceptance and principled guidance.
  • Offer young people a place to explore Unitarian Universalism and other faiths.
  • Encourage innate curiosity, wonder and joy.
  • Provide opportunities for children to model and apply the seven principles of Unitarian Universalism.

Lessons & Activities:

Our lessons are designed to teach children to think for him or herself.  We want children to be secure in their decisions and have a developing sense of who they are and where they fit into the world.  These are big outcomes, but the steps to get there aren’t.

Nursery:

Our nursery staff provides a safe and fun   environment for the youngest members of our community.  The nursery is available for    infants and toddlers age birth-two years old. Children in the nursery will be offered age-appropriate activities, including play time.

Preschool:

Our preschool class houses children from ages 3-5.  The lessons are taught from the Unitarian Universalist book called “We are many, We are one.” Our lessons are full of stories, games and projects that encourage children to honor themselves, their religious community, nature, and cultures from around the world.

Kindergarten-First Grade:

This curriculum is a mix of character   building lessons and the Unitarian          Universalist Tapestry of Faith lessons.

Lessons include stories, games and art    projects taught in a manner that will help the children develop moral, civic, and healthy habits for years to come.

Second-Fourth Grade:

Our 2nd-4th graders use the Timeless Themes curriculum which are lessons from the    Hebrew and Christian Bibles.  These lessons introduce children to     religious literature that is central to North American culture and to Unitarian Universalist heritage. The Bible stories are taught from the perspective of Unitarian Universalist values. The violence in the stories is not avoided, but recognized and used to guide participants toward an understanding of non-violent ways to      resolve conflict.

Fifth-Sixth Grade:

Our 5th and 6th graders use the Neighboring Faiths curriculum to explore history and       development of different faith traditions.      Participants choose which religious groups to learn about, and visit and relate to their own growing faith.

Seventh-Ninth Grade:

Our 7th, 8th, and 9th graders explore lessons   provided from Teaching Tolerance combined with Unitarian Universalist Tapestry of Faith       Lessons. Every other year, the students use the curriculum Our Whole Lives (OWL).  Owl is a series of sexuality education curricula that helps participants make informed and responsible  decisions about sexual health and behavior.

Youth Group:

Sophomores, Junior and Seniors in high school make up our youth group.  Youth group lessons change from year to year based on needs and participant’s requests. High school age students put their faith into action every day by daring to be real, showing acceptance and support, leading with courage and acting for justice.
