James Island County Park
Stono Shelter
871 Riverland Dr, Charleston, SC
($2 pp. park admission)
Join us this week for a special outdoor May Day service at James Island County Park. Pack a lunch and get ready to celebrate the beginning of summer and dance around the May Pole! Feel free to dress in the spirit of the season and wear your May Day finest.
Mark Farnham will serve as our worship associate, and the Time for All Ages will be shared by Danielle Lopez, our director of faith and community development. Our music will be shared by Susan Conant, Mark Farnham, Katherine Kinder, Karin McQuade, Regina Ruopoli and Katie Turek.
Everyone will then be invited -- and guided on how -- to dance around a May Pole! A May Pole Dance is a ceremonial folk dance performed around a tall pole garlanded with greenery or flowers, and often hung with ribbons that are woven into complex patterns by the dancers. Such dances are survivals of ancient dances around a living tree as part of spring rites to ensure fertility. We will also make daisy crowns and have other fun activities.
Please note this service will not be livestreamed, and there will be no virtual Coffee Hour this week. We look forward to seeing you at the park!
On most Sundays, our livestream will be broadcast directly from this page. Simply click the box above to watch the livestream. It will also feed into our Facebook page and YouTube channel. We hope you will join us in-person or online!
***Our nursery is available for children up to age 5 during all our Worship Services. Our Religious Education programs for school-age are currently offered on the second and fourth Sunday of each month!
Please note: We highly recommend and respectfully request that you complete the COVID-19 vaccination, if eligible, before returning for in-person services. While inside any of our buildings, masks are currently optional.
